Law of Attraction has a lot to say about why you have so much fear around starting your business, and it has a solution for you as well.
But first: I invite you to pay no attention to the incredible amount of superficial Law of Attraction in business advice that warns you not to focus on your fear or you will attract more of it and blah blah blah.
Like you are supposed to magically make your fear go away. Good luck with that.
Instead, know this: if you’ve never owned a business before, feeling fearful about starting one is… totally normal. If you’ve been beating yourself up about your fears, now would be a good time to stop that.
Why Starting Your Business Attracts Fear
Anytime we start something we’ve never done before – if it matters to us at all – it is going to trigger fear. Change can feel like the bottom of very steep climb. When you first begin there’s no visible assurance you will ever make it to the top…
Examples: Your first day at school, your first time riding a two-wheeler, your first dive off the high board, your first piano recital, your first date with someone you really liked, your first day as a college freshman, your first day on the job, the weeks leading up to your wedding day (even though you were in love), having your first child…
As humans we’ve had millions of years of programming to fear the unknown. It’s in our biology, known as the flight or fight syndrome. I don’t care how many affirmations you write, re-programming your biology isn’t easy or automatic.
Worse yet, fear may never be completely removed – would you really want to unplug your natural caution when crossing the street at a major intersection?
Managing unnecessary fear so you have choices other than getting stuck in negativity requires commitment and inner work.
I promised you Law of Attraction had a solution for your fears of starting a business. Here are the 4 steps that allow you to turn down your fear alarms long enough to create something new: a thriving business.
Law of Attraction’s 4-Step Solution for Fear
Step 1: Accept that fear is normal; this is the first step in moving beyond the fear-based paralysis you’re in regarding your business
The Law of Attraction teaches us that fighting against what we don’t want makes what we oppose even stronger. This fighting state is called “resistance” and – according to the teachings of Abraham-Hicks – resistance is the only factor preventing us from receiving what we desire.
If you’re willing to accept that fear is normal when entering the unknown, your acceptance releases resistance and automatically move into the possibility of feeling at peace in spite of the presence of fear. Then you’ve shifted from resistance to what Abraham-Hicks calls “allowing,” meaning allowing yourself to receive from the universe.
You’ve also separated from the fear – even if only a tiny bit. It no longer feels quite so engulfing and dangerous. Now you need to create some consistency in your response to the fear trigger.
Step 2: Make a practice of noticing when fear shows up in your business
Starting a new business triggers fear over and over and over – because every single thing you do when you start out can feel challenging. A simple-sounding task like getting your website created turns out to involve dozens of decisions you don’t even know how to think about.
I can’t think of a single Law of Attraction coaching client I have worked with who didn’t experience tremendous fear around getting her first website online.
Once you’ve been able to notice your fear and choose peaceful acceptance in spite of it, the Law of Attraction gives you many opportunities.
Oh, sorry, I don’t mean opportunities to get rich and famous overnight. (You’ll have those, but in most cases not just yet.)
What you’ll often be given first is the well-honed ability to notice when fear shows up again. To notice it now knowing you have the ability to accept it as normal and to feel at peace anyway.
You have the ability to accept fear and release resistance – but as with any skill – you will need to practice it. Don’t worry, the universe will send you lots of opportunities.
You will be tempted to feel too exhausted and overwhelmed to do this practice of acceptance – and you will want to give up.
This is in fact what most new business owners do, because they start to think that if it’s this hard it must not be “meant to be.”
That thought can easily lead to the decision to give up.
But if you can stop yourself from giving up on your dream just because it still feels uncomfortable, you can move swiftly into step 3 and your turning point.
Step 3: Decide to move forward anyway – this creates your turning point
To keep moving forward every time fear shows up, it helps to re-frame your apparent obstacles as opportunities. And this isn’t B.S. wishful thinking. It’s adopting the higher perspective of your soul or Inner Being. Here’s why:
Fear shows up only because you have the desire for expansion. Your desire – which you are not yet a vibrational match to – triggers the fear that gives you the opportunity to expand beyond the limitations you have lived with up to now.
If you didn’t have these limitations you wouldn’t feel fear. You’d be an easy vibe match to your dream and you’d be living it.
Until you become that match, continue the practice noticing fear and choosing to see it as an opportunity to expand. In time it becomes easier to remain unmoved and calm when fear shows up again. And again. In time fear becomes, if not a complete non-issue, at least a less formidable issue.
Now you are following your path of spiritual entrepreneurship and success – the path your soul called you to when you felt the inspiration to create your business.
Did you think you could create a thriving business without having to go through some inner changes?
Can you think of any successful person in any field who hasn’t had to consciously choose to practice and expand beyond fear? If so, leave me a comment and tell me who it is!
Step 4: Claim spiritual self-esteem: refuse to tolerate thoughts about yourself and your success that are less than what the universe thinks of you.
Even though you – like most of us – were probably programmed by your family and society to believe that you aren’t good enough to deserve what you desire, that’s a belief installed in your mind. It’s not the truth of who you are.
Abraham-Hicks teaches that we are here as powerful creators who want to “get our hands in the clay” and sculpt the life that fulfills us.
When you refuse to tolerate the old false beliefs that you are powerless, not good enough, destined for a life of struggle and lack, arrogant for thinking you have talent, etc. you claim spiritual self-esteem.
Abraham and other Law of Attraction teachers say it frequently land clearly: The universe created you for success and abundance of all things wanted.
You wouldn’t be given the inspiration to create a business if spirit did not support your success in that business completely. In fact, Abraham says that part of what felt inspiring to you was the soul-level participation of your abundant future customers who were cheering you on from the beginning.
We aren’t taught the truth of our own power in our families and societies – yet. For now you have to claim them for yourself.
When you find yourself buying into the beliefs that “others can have it but not me,” you have the choice to know that is false programming and to return to knowing that you were designed for success and abundance.
Creating your business is a spiritual path and a journey. You need the qualities and commitment and resilience to walk it all the way to success. Fear brings you your earliest opportunities to claim commitment and resilience. Fear always points the way to freedom from a limitation that no longer serves you.
