As a Law of Attraction coach I’m often asked why new ventures that feel exciting and hopeful at the outset often run into roadblocks.
A better question might be: what’s the big deal about a roadblock?
It’s a spiritual fantasy to think that we can create a magnificent life without encountering any challenges or fears. In his latest Law of Attraction book, Manifesting Change, Mike Dooley writes: “If your life did not have challenges it would not be worth living…there would be no adventure.”
A roadblock is telling you there’s a detour between where you are and where you want to be. The detour may represent the need to learn a new skill (confidence in selling, for example).
Or it could indicate the need to release an old thought pattern (such as the belief you need to control other people in order to have what you want).
Or it could offer an alternative to the path you’ve been on, especially if you have been struggling for a long time, with little progress.
Also from Mike Dooley: “… if you think you’ve figured out which path you’d like to go down in life (because it resonates in your heart) but suddenly see a lion, tiger or bear standing before you on the path, this doesn’t mean it’s the wrong path! Actually, it should probably confirm it’s the right one. ”
The reason a terrifying wild animal (or any other roadblock) often indicates you’re exactly where you need to be is this: our true path is always one of expansion. We don’t get to expand without encountering and moving through challenges.
Often a spiritual entrepreneur will say something to me like, “I know that if I’m meant to do this, the Law of Attraction will make it easy for me.”
Don’t count on it!
Can you name a single super successful person you admire who didn’t have to deal with massive obstacles (especially at the outset)? I can’t…but please leave a comment if you disagree.
How can we benefit from roadblocks?
Expect them. Roadblocks are a sign you are truly on your path of expansion.
Find a way to move forward anyway. There’s always a simple step you can take to keep moving forward. When you identify the step and take it, the universe quickly opens up a new path to your goal.
Choose to enjoy the adventure. It’s only our old habits that cause us to respond to roadblocks with disappointment or discouragement. We can also choose to respond with fresh determination and optimism.
The way you respond to a roadblock determines how long it sticks around. If you want to regain your forward momentum quickly, find a positive response to your roadblock, and it will light the next step along your path.
